spectacular view of the Cistercian abbey of Senanque opens to us , a masterpiece of monastic architecture that due its beauty became symbol of the whole of Province .
Keeping north on the D177 , we immerse ourselves in the gorges of Vaucluse mountains and turn south on the D4 towards Murs and then Roussilon , the latter made unique by the ocher colour of the roofs of the houses and of the fields . Just twenty kilometres separate us from the Provençal Colorado near Rustrel . The ocher deposits are incredible formations , and one can walk through these red ocher former mines that emerge from the green forests .
We leave the Provençal Colorado and continue on the curvy roads of the hill leading to Apt . Here we are welcomed with lavender bouquets for the festivals that are taking place all over the region in this time of the year . In this place everything takes the colour of this plant , the lilac of its flower , from soap , to ice-cream , sweets and the bags that contains their flavour and fragrance .
It ’ s riding through all the D900 , when we arrive to the Valensole highland through the D6 – the real Lavender Road – that we are going
