A recent study by Flywire , a technology company that specialises in international and electronic payments services , suggested that two thirds of all regular travellers are ready to start exploring again . Respondents to a recent Traverse survey also suggested similar results with 67 % saying they won ’ t wait for the pandemic to be officially announced as over before they travel . Men are more likely to start travel early than women .
Travelling early is one thing but will international travel start early ? At a micro level , that is based on feedback from individuals , it seems unlikely . Almost half of all Traverse readers seem to be content with travelling within their own nation before crossing international borders , a fact not driven by decisions made by governments but rather a need to be fully vaccinated , many suggest this is not for personal risk mitigation but to protect those not fortunate enough to have received a vaccination or that are in vulnerable situations .
Over a third of all travellers feel a need to be fully vaccinated before they will leave home and with that will come some form of official document to confirm the inoculation .
Earlier this year , Stuart Robert , Australian Government Services Minister said that Australia ’ s states and territories would decide whether a vaccination certificate would be required for internal travel however , all international visitors to Australia would need to show some sort of proof before they are considered safe to enter the country and even forego quarantine .
Ironically , Australia is lagging behind many developed nations in the vaccination rollout leaving many travellers confused as to whether Australia would be considered for travel . Just 11 % of regular general travellers will visit Australia according to the Flywire study , a similar result was demonstrated by motorcycle travellers and readers of Traverse .
Airlines are taking the proof of vaccination concept further even requiring identification before a ticket can be purchased . QANTAS CEO , Alan Joyce has held the belief since late 2020 that the Australian airline would write a condition into its policies that a vaccination certificate would be needed to fly internationally .
Other international airlines including , United , Lufthansa , Swiss International Airlines , and Virgin Atlantic , have also taken similar steps and created apps that are branded as ‘ health passes ’ which include the CommonPass app that allows users to store COVID test results and vaccination details , making sure they
