of the straps to work with and although limited they offer a well-worn solution to holding things in place . There ’ s nothing easier than wrapping the straps around your luggage and frame , pull tight on the free end after placing through the cambuckle . The strap will remain tight until the buckle is released .
The major downside is that on the GRUNT ® product the cambuckles are made from steel and do tend to wear at any object beneath them , a piece of old clothe is a simple solution if this is a problem for you .
Our tested 25mm x 2m twin pack of GRUNT ® pulldown tie straps retail at around AU $ 12.00 and can be found at most major hardware stores .
The last to be tested were a set of bungy cords ( occy straps ) and as we started fitting them to the bike and luggage , we were reminded that these things are damned dangerous . So why use them ? Yes , they ’ re cheap … and yes , they ARE cheap ! And there lies the problem . Why risk losing your luggage , or worse maybe an eye ? With bungy cords it ’ s not a matter of if they let go but when they let go . So , spend a little extra and get yourself a luggage strap system that works and will last .
We ’ ve outlined from the most cost effective and simplest to use in the GRUNT ® straps , to the most expensive yet least damaging in the Andy Strapz . Do
we have a favourite ? No . All have their pros , and all have their cons . To be honest , we ’ d consider using a combination of a few sets of differing styles or brands for varying applications . The one thing we will say is that we will never use bungy cords again . TRAVERSE
