what you ride , or where you finish , the importance is placed firmly on having a go . These riders , and owners , have the greatest respect for their machines , I can hear many questioning the fact that they race on sand , in salt water , by the ocean , yet many would also argue that these machines are being ridden as they were intended , hard and competitively . It ’ s an attitude that feels right , and respect to all those that do compete , as owners , riders , or both .
Racing at Sellicks Beach is a spectacle , an aberration of a time and attitude long since passed , machines that wouldn ’ t be out of place in a museum being ridden as they would ’ ve been as long ago as one hundred years . ‘ Old shitters ’ on the beach ridden harder , faster than many much more younger machines and riders would ever dare .
In a world complicated by technology , social media , rules , and regulations it ’ s refreshing that an event like the Sellicks Beach racing can go ahead . The City of Onkaparinga should be thanked for allowing an event as such to take place , the Levis MCC congratulated for hosting the racing , the many volunteers praised for the hard work . And the riders , well , their grins more than enough … and now , I ’ m away to find an ‘ old shitter ’ to race at the next instalment , the beard already begun .
