we wanted to visit . By linking them one by one , we got a sketch of the route we were supposed to travel ... Our audacious plan was to make approximately 18.5 thousand kilometres with the possibility of shortening the route in case of an emergency . Operation time : less than 7 weeks , so we could visit Sturgis .
In planning the trip , we focused primarily on nature and national parks , but also on the heritage of American pop culture , which we finally had the opportunity to experience !
It was a hot evening on July 10 in Boynton Beach , Florida , when we were ready for the next day ' s road ahead and sat down with our friends over an evening beer . I asked Ark for the last tips and tricks before the journey . He told me this ; watch out for the trucks because you can be surprised , they have no speed limiters up to 95 km / h as in Europe ...
The first miles on our new motorcycle , unknown to us , in the new country , were quite conservative , but still pleasant and not tiring at all . Direction ; Northwest . First destination ; New Orleans , the magical French Quarter , and the cult Bourbon Street ! Although we were not focused on visiting cities in the USA , it would be a sin not to see some of them .
New Orleans , with its multicultural , incredibly musical atmosphere is an absolute number one on our must-see list of American cities . As night falls , the magic of this city begins , live music starts to come from almost every pub on Bourbon Street . There is also famous Preservation Jazz Hall , a music club where we simply couldn ' t let go of a concert . Such a performance of authentic New Orleans jazz , we probably won ' t hear anywhere else . Direction Oklahoma City ! The famous Route 66 which was also on the top of our must-see list , runs through the city ! We joined the Mother of all routes there heading west , like those who used to go to California looking for a better world .
The state of Oklahoma , much less developed than California or Florida , will always be perceived by us as the one in which the economy is based on agriculture and associated with the cheapest gasoline on our entire US route : $ 1.77 per gallon ( 60 Australian cents per litre ).
What creates the atmosphere of Route 66 is not so much the road itself , but dozens of towns that you ride past , which are a kind of openair museum of the 1950-70s , full of atmospheric pubs , souvenir shops , monuments , and various museums … the strangest we found was the museum of barbed wire .
Arizona and Utah welcomed us with what we were waiting for the most , the National Parks . They are an absolute festival for the senses
