Baring unforeseen circumstances or the occasional puncture a tube should last as long as the manufacturer recommends , as long or even longer than the tyre . Good habits will ensure it does . Most inner tube manufacturers recommend replacing your tubes every six months but is this necessary ? Looking for signs of wear will help you get longer life and tubes do wear out regardless of a puncture . Signs of chaffing or discolouration indicate the tube is nearing the end , as are rolled rubber on the surface of the tube . And try to get into the habit of replacing a patched tube with a new one when you can .
So , while running tubed tyres often have many detractors the truth is , they offer a better option when riding in rougher conditions and can often get you out of situations where a tubeless tyre could simply fail and be unrepairable .
