negligible traffic . It was pure delight from beginning to end , the pleasure enhanced by meeting friends we ’ d made who were on a trip from Melbourne .
I really don ’ t want to give the impression that my entire six-months in Australia were spent grounded . Ever grateful for new experiences , I saw a different side of things . My belief that all will be well was confirmed ; my confidence returned and most of it was glorious . When things were less than glorious , they were at least interesting and the wilderness workshops were just wonderful .
This was a very different experience from my last in Australia . My bike was a pain , but the people we met came up trumps , resulting in long-term friendships .
When I do talks about my travels , I am often asked which of the twentyseven countries I have visited with my Enfield is my favourite . That I have spent more than a year during two visits to Australia and had planned another sojourn this winter says it all … I think … JF

The ' sojourn ' over the northern winter she mentioned was to recreate the 1950 crossing of the country by Winifred Wells , aboard a Royal Enfield . There ' s little that stops Jacqui , Covid did , but she sees this as just a pause and will return downunder to complete that ride .
