for Christmas so we made our way there spotting familiar worldwide cities , named by early settlers . Within a few hours ’ ride were both Baghdad and Brighton . The news about my carburettor had spread and a club member , feeling a replacement was required , offered an almost new one which he would deliver on Boxing Day . Not only did he bring it but , as we sipped Tasmanian champagne , he fitted it too !
This contact led to an invitation for us to stay with him . When we got to his luxurious home , he insisted on checking my bike over and renewing
the fork oil . Another angel !
Back up-country for some house and dog-sitting at Exeter for the president of the Royal Enfield Club of Australia . Another English name and another fabulous location ... their house had a garden which led down to the Tamar River where I swam every day for a week . We walked the tiniest and most fun-loving dog ever on a nearby beach . We had some welding done ( my luggage-rack still needed repair ) and visited The Bert Munro cafe . A dog , a beautiful view , even use of a car . My ! Weren ’ t we lucky now ! I did an oil change and sprayed
Australian deodorised fish-oil on anything that looked susceptible to rust .
On his return , our host was determined to find out why my headlight didn ’ t work and finally discovered that the new alternator had only two leading wires instead of four , leaving my headlight wires with nowhere to go ! The Melbourne mechanic must have known it was the wrong alternator as he had taped up the dangling headlight wires knowing that I would have no headlight . With the club president ’ s help , I received a 50 % refund and the headlight was connected directly to
