" THE SHITTING MYSELF FACTOR "
On the eve of what many consider to be the toughest sporting event in the world , the Dakar , a race of human spirit , machines , and environments , we sat down with an unassuming Australian taking on the 2021 edition .
“ I really want to get people out there , having a go ,” smiles Michael Burgess , the latest rider to represent Australia in what is considered the world ’ s toughest rally .
“ I ’ d ridden a few rallies and still didn ’ t understand how to navigate ,” the forty-one year old shrugs . He ’ s passionate about the riding aspect of rallying yet it seems more so about the navigational skills required to be successful . With that came a dream , to start a business teaching others how to use the tools required to navigate whilst having fun in the process . The seed was planted , and Destination Dakar Roadbook Adventures was born .
