According to the Western Australian Department of Main Roads , the completion of sealing the Cape Leveque Road is scheduled to be completed in 2021 .
The project , at a cost of AU $ 65.6 million , will see the remaining dirt section totally sealed . It ' s understood that the reconstruction of the road will have economical benefits for the people who reside in the region through tourism and ecological projects .
Main Roads , with help from local Aboriginal communities , is monitoring the impact made by the construction including the habitats of the endangered Bilby population .
Although the suggested benefits of sealing such a road are significant , the impacts will be greater and Cape Leveque will forever be changed .
