TRAVERSE :

What Would Evel Do ?

It happened ! I cracked !

Lockdown , in what is considered the toughest Covid-19 restrictions in the world ( Melbourne , Australia ), a few weeks ago I finally vented , dumping my spleen on a dear friend , all due to a baby magpie in my front yard . The stupidest of things , certainly not one of my finest moments .
Stewing on the moment I sat alone and for some strange reason thought , “ what would Evel do ?”
Evel Knievel , that crazy stuntman of my childhood years , always had the right answer ; get on a bike , jump a few things , probably crash … recover with a laugh and get on with life .
That ’ s what a bike does , makes you grin , even laugh . The wilder the ride , the more you ’ ll laugh . It ’ s what a bike does .
So when the restrictions and bubble is lifted a ride will be on the cards , a wild ride , something that will make me laugh … in the meantime rejoicing in the exploits of others , those able to travel , those allowed to ride … and like Evel Knievel I ’ ll be planning a crazy adventure to escape my personal Snake Canyon that is Covid-19 restrictions , perhaps a rocket propelled postie bike to burst from the bubble .
Evel , thanks for the inspiration as a kid , for the motivation as an adult , and maybe during these crazy times we could all ask the question . “ What would Evel do ?” …

Leigh

PS . And as for the little magpie , he ’ s getting stronger and growing with confidence , he has ambition , he ' s a little cocky and he ’ s a jumper ... I think we ' ll call him Evel .
