that with rain we would have had to take too many detours , we resumed the trail towards Payar Yangyang and Ferlo , and then again to Neguè instead of pulling north to Mbaye Aw and Rosso ; we held the south bank of the Ferlo to Saint Louis to make what was then the last stage of the once Paris Dakar rally ; the beach of the Senegalese Grand Cote .
Again , in Saint Louis , we went back to the same hotel of the first day , this time sleeping for free . We realised that the receptionist was a relative of my guide . We ate grilled fish on the beach . CR

Thomas Isidore Noel Sankara was president of Burkina Faso between 1983 and 1987 . The Pan-Africanist was a Marxist and Leninist and responsible for changing the name of Upper Volta to Burkina Faso ( Land of Incurruptable People ). Sankara was assassinated in 1987 along with 12 other government officials . 3 . Marabout are religious ( Muslim ) leaders and teachers in western Africa . Often they will wander the region relying on donations from strangers and followers .
4 . Sahel , is an Aarabic word meaning coast or shoreline . In this case it ' s the biogeographic region that forms a boundary between the Sahara Desert and the Sudanian savanna . With its semi-arid climate it stretches the entire width of the African continent .
