idea , a well-dressed ride .
The DGR teams up with the Movember foundation and since its inception in 2012 has raised over AU $ 34 million for primarily men ’ s leading cancer killer , prostate cancer , and the associated mental health issues . Yet , it goes much further than the finances raised , it ’ s about raising awareness and over 300,000 riders from more than 100 countries have all helped with that .
Looking through the list of riders , it ’ s as diverse as motorcycling itself . Three thousand riders from Australia participated raising over half a million dollars to date . The United States ’ 6,000 riders raising AU $ 1.2 million . At the other end of the scale nations like Kyrgyzstan with 3 riders , Botswana ( 2 riders ) and Guam ’ s single rider all raising funds and more importantly awareness . The DGR is truly a global event . It would be easier to extoll the virtues of individuals who have raised sums of money akin to a yearly income , there ’ s no need , the DGR is not about single riders , it ’ s a global movement , dressed in tweed .
The Distinguished Gentleman ’ s Ride is male in name , and perhaps nature , but is open to all and more often than not the ladies cut a very fine figure as they ride , dressed in their finest and show the men how it ’ s done .
