bikes across one at a time.
With one of us holding the bars and
the other on the rear we struggled
but got the first bike through. Even
though the bike took in a decent
amount of water we were happy we’d
made it across. We quickly got the
second bike across and it still took
in some water, but we were able to
get it fired back up without too much
trouble.
The 650 wasn’t as easy. Water had
got into the cylinder, which meant
pulling all the gear and tank off to
get to the plugs. She finally roared
back to life after getting the water
out and after packing up we were
feeling excited we’d made it across,
but soon realised our plan A to cross
the Calvert and Robinson rivers a bit
further down the track following the
Savannah Way would not happen.
We checked the maps again and
decided to exercise our plan B. We
would take a track through into
Calvert Hills cattle station, which
would see us crossing the Calvert
river a lot further inland where
hopefully the crossing was a bit
lower. This would also see us missing
the Robinson river all together.
We headed inland towards the
station with our fingers crossed that
our plan would work, because back
tracking now would mean days and
