It’s a similar situation in most regions and Jackson
believes that there’s opportunities for all businesses, he
sees Compass Expeditions looking closer to home.
“We think that the local travel restrictions will be relaxed
before international ones so are planning a series
of 7-10 day rides in some of the most spectacular, wild
and remote parts of Australia,” obviously aimed at Australian
riders he went on.
“We have always struggled to sell Australia to Australians
as people look at the cost of a fully supported tour
and think that they can travel to those places themselves,
cheaper. That may be so, but, only a very small proportion
of Australian riders have the time and experience to
plan and undertake such a ride.”
It’s an interesting prospect, exciting times.
Astonishingly, some operators have even directed customers
away from their business to that of direct opposition,
highlighting what they do well, how they are surviving
the situation and what can be offered. It’s a clear
indication that there’s solidarity within the motorcycle
travel industry, and most are willing to work to ensure
the industry, as a whole, will survive.
While many operators are looking at internal markets
for new opportunities one that is already in that position
is Mount Buller Motorcycle Adventures run in the Australian
state of Victoria high country.
