“Fuel efficiency is not that good,” laughs Michael
Scheller, a 32-year-old travelling the world on a BMW
R100R.
The bike he’s referring to is a classic black BMW, an
airhead, and as Michael describes it, ‘timeless’. The fuel
economy is around 7 litres to 100 kilometres.
“I had been looking for an airhead because I love then
for their timeless design.”
When Michael purchased the bike, he became its sec-
ond owner, the bike had already been modified slightly,
Michael says to make it look more like the CS model;
front fairing, steel indicators and fork boots were includ-
ed. All have been helpful on his ride around the world.
“To prepare for the long trip,” Michael explains. “I
fitted new suspension, stainless steel rack and panniers.”
Michael also fitted dual purpose tyres, as a precaution
more than anything, other than that the bike is standard.
“I like to keep it original.”
