Offroad manufacturer GasGas will radically expand
their FIM World Championship competition program for
2020 and will enter factory racing teams in new disci-
plines such as Motocross, Rally and Enduro.
Heading the way, is the news that Spanish star and
record-setting female rider, Laia Sanz will join GasGas
from KTM to lead the Rally team and take on Dakar, now
held in Saudi Arabia.
The 34 year old Sanz is regarded as not only the lead-
ing female rider but also one of the worlds best in gen-
eral. A multiple FIM Women's trial world champion and
ten year veteran of Enduro and Rally Sanz believes the
move to GasGas will give her the means to beat her previ-
ous best ninth place.
“When the announcement was made about GasGas’
future, things happened very fast," explains Sanz.
"We had the challenge to prepare very quickly for
Dakar 2020. We are in a positive way; the bike looks great
and we are in full preparation for the race in January."
Sanz suggests that her future with GasGas will open
many more doors and present greater opportunities.
"GasGas is known as a trials bike brand and this is also
close to my heart and roots ... we start on a new journey
together.”
"Laia has some history with GasGas in Rally," ex-
plained Robert Jonas, VP Motorsports Offroad. "(It) was
the natural fit to push the name back to the front at the
Dakar."
Jonas believes Sanz will be the perfect ambassador for
the brand and will be a front runner on the Dakar.
The 42nd edition of Dakar starts on January 5.
