adventure ethos.
“One of the biggest things I had to really wrap my brain
around was how hot it was in the desert,” there’s the
laughter again, perhaps more out of embarrassment this
time.
“We would ride for seven to eight hours a day and it
was 40 degrees (Celsius). We would be drinking as much
as our hydro packs could carry, then filling them up at
every gas stop,” he goes on to explain that everyone was
sweating a great deal and that in Canada it very rarely
gets above 30 degrees. It’s an experience that has left a
great impression on Liam and he wants more.
“I really love the Dual Sport adventure riding that
crosses long distances,” he laments. “You end up seeing
so many different things when you leave the highways
and normal routes.
“I think in our fast-paced climate, everyone is so
concerned with getting places as fast as possible and in
doing that they end up missing out on so much. Taking
the time to slow down and see some amazing things or to
even have the time to explore and get lost for a while is
an amazing feeling that I think we should all indulge in
more.”
Sentiments like this have resinated with the guys at
Mutt who Liam says are planning on making a larger
scrambler, perhaps a 450, which he suggests would be
perfect, especially for events that the Fuel guys are plan-
ning. Liam also has a Himalayan adventure planned with
a base in Nepal … he laughs again that he’s happy to go
where anyone wants him to go.
“I’ve done some road riding in between shows in Can-
ada and England,” Liam grins. “But even just highway
riding was super tiring, and with us having such a physi-
cal show I was flat out exhausted by the end of the day.
“I couldn’t imagine riding off road and having to get on
stage,” he rolls his eyes. If you haven’t seen a Cancer Bats
show it really is something that needs to be witnessed.
We’re not so sure he would struggle; Liam did perform a
show straight after finishing Scram … he laughs a com-
plete tour would kill him.
So, what about Australia?
“I would really love to explore Australia on a motorcy-
cle. There’s’ so many amazing spots in this country and
I feel like there’s such a huge bike culture,” we can’t help
but agree.
“I would love to do a Treadwell moto tour where I could
ride around and do some fun pop up shops and hang. I
think that would be great!”
Treadwell?
“Yeah, I started the brand about four years ago,” Liam
quickly jumps in, it’s a project he’s extremely passionate
about. “I wanted to just make some fun positive T-shirts.
