An Adventure
“Kelvin got down on one knee and proposed to me,”
Suzie Bostock giggles. “It’s definitely a memory that I
will never forget.”
Suzie and partner, Kelvin Prevett, had been wild
camping along Ruta J in Argentina’s Tierra Del Fuego
when Kelvin proposed marriage with a ring, he’d crafted
himself from a piece of wood. It’s the sort of spontaneity
that has made exploring South America worth it for the
couple from Bristol, England.
Aboard a pair of 20-year-old Suzuki DR650’s Suzie and
Kelvin decide that they would take on South America
first, allowing two years. They sold what they could,
saved, convinced families it was something they had to
do and set off. A chance comment, by a friend, while
having dinner was the impetus to make it happen.
“We always felt under pressure only being able to take
a maximum of 2 weeks holiday at any one time,” they
both sigh. Suzie adding, “after starting to explore the
countries close to us on our bikes the travel bug really set
in.”
The family of both have been supportive however,
health issues for Kelvin’s mother has meant that the
occasional trip back to the United Kingdom have had to
occur.
“My parents were a little more anxious about it howev-
er they have keenly followed our journey,” smiles Kelvin,
explaining that his mother recently suffered a stroke.
“When we decided to extend our trip for an extra year,
I went home to visit them so that I could see them and
spend a couple of weeks with them.”
The pair beam when they explain that they prefer to
travel on the road ‘less travelled’, to explore seldom seen
areas, visit regions not on the tourist brochures.
“This allows adds to the adventure,” grins Suzie. “We
have a huge thirst for life, culture, nature and beautiful
scenery, and South America has all of this in abundance.”
Travelling on the more remote roads has had its
challenges, something the pair have learnt to deal with
