A s far as motorcycle travel goes, the Altay Mountains, the unique region of Russia right in the heart of Sibe- ria, is regarded as one of the most beautiful and picturesque places. It sits right there along with Lake Baikal. Nestled amongst these mountains sits Belukha, at 4,509 metres it’s the highest mountain in Siberia. There’s also Teletskoe Lake, known as the little brother of Baikal, it’s regarded as one of the cleanest lakes in the world. The area is hard to reach by four wheeled vehicles and is therefore is an area rel- atively untouch by civilisation. In 1998 the region was recognised for its significance. The Altay Moun- tains with Katun Natural Reserve, the Teletskoe Lake, Belukha Mountain, and the Ukok Plateau were included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites under the name of the Golden Mountains of Altai. My name is Mike, I ride a Triumph Tiger 800XC, I felt the need to share my experience with this beautiful part of the world. My ride was just a few months ago, August 2018. Mostly I travel alone, but I have nothing against good company, TRAVERSE 59
