DESERT!"
The corrugations that 'never die' ...
I
couldn’t believe it, I’d just
been told to stop complain-
ing. The incessant corruga-
tions and deep sand holes had
been taking their toll, the heat
of the day seemed to be get-
ting hotter. I’d had enough.
“What do you bloody expect?”,
came the rhetorical question over the
intercom.
“It’s a bloody desert …” tailed off
yet again. I knew now was the time to
stop making comment.
It had been my last-minute decision
to ride down what is regarded as one
of Australia’s toughest direct routes,
the Tanami Track. A ‘shortcut’ link be-
tween central Australia and The Kim-
berly region of Western Australia.
For whatever reason, day three of
the over 1,000 kilometre ride was hav-
ing an effect on me. The heat wasn’t
the problem, it was our 50th day of
