about!
I live in the small city of Bogor, around 1.5 hours from
Jakarta. It’s often a retreat for Jakartan families at the
weekends, thus clogging up the roads however, it’s a ha-
ven for bikers as just a stone’s throw south east of Bogor
city is the lush, hilly region of Puncak. The roads, by In-
donesian standard, are quite demanding with steep slopes
and winding bends. It’s basically the nearest thing to the
Alps or the Blue Mountains as you’ll get here. As such,
the scenery is breath-taking and there’s every reason for
bikers to cruise rather than blast through the area. Take
a moment and admire the views of the various tea planta-
tions and rice fields around.
Point your bike in any direction from Jakarta or Bogor
and I very much doubt you’ll find disappointment. There’s
plenty of places to see, plenty of places to eat, people to
meet and more. Indonesia, Jakarta, the Big Durian, is
certainly worth riding. OH
And incase you're wondering, Jakarta's nickname, The
Big Durian, comes from the fact that Indonesian's consid-
er the city to be the New York of Indonesia. We know that
New York is calld the Big Apple, well, a durian is a fruit
native to the region, therefore, The Big Durian.
The durian is a spiny, smelly fruit, that is delicious to
the locals ... perhaps like Jakarta.
