BOOK REVIEWS Maiden Voyage Tim Notier 2017 R Prequals generally don't work, who cares what happened before the real story begins? In this case, Tim Notier's Maiden Voyage, hits the mark and proves that prequals can be import- ant. In preparation for the 'adventure of a lifetime' Tim and his partner, Marissa, take off for a 3 week two-up ride around Utah and Colorado in the United States. Perhaps not exotic to most, a revelation to Tim and Marissa. The pair realise they want more and thus begins the plan- ning for a round the world ride. Maiden Voyage is well written; descriptive and honest. Reading through the 160 pages will make you want to start your own journey and perhaps even visit Utah and Colorado, the perseption is that Tim could be a travel writer of note. Tim's account of riding the Shafer Canyon is beautifully written, honest and forthright, in a perverse way the reader will probably chuckle to themselve, and think, 'yes, I've been there done that', owning up to the fact that we are all often challenged and decide the reward isn't worth the risk. In reading Maiden Voyage the reader quickly realises that every journey is not about the destination but how you get there, how you challenge yourself and what you learn. This is about what Tim and Marissa learn about each other, themselves and what they are prepared to do to achieve their dreams and goals. Maiden Voyage is a prequal written before the main story, so we know there will be more, we're thankful for this because the Notier's story will be worth sharing as they ride around the world.
