only a few days time.
Being male, ignorant and blissful-
ly unaware of our true situation, we
decide to ride like wild banshees and
gun it for the next two hours and make
for the Oman/Yemen border cross-
ing of Al Mazyunah. Coming from
the coast and the huge breathtaking
limestone escarpment we leave be-
hind, we enter into what resembles
another planet. Dry, flat terrain and
ancient gullies greet us where the
border roads are hard pack dirt kept
in good order by the Oman military.
After a few wrong guesses with the
Oman Tourism map we finally make
it to Al Mazyunah and our chance of
getting into the Empty Quarter early
next morning.
