"N ot G ood E nough " World Records On The Salt Ralph Hudson A n undertaking of extreme proportions, much the same as the 2017 event, the 2018 Top Of The World Land Speed event was fraught with numerous issues. As the date grew closer it was clear the orig- inal intent to have over a dozen entrants was never going to be met, only six of these unique riders would make the effort to take on the salt at Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni. A little disappointing! A variety of reasons; health, shipping, customs, only three of us were able to get our equipment to the salt flats. Jamie Williams had to pull out and Jim Knapp had issues with customs and was not able to ship his four- wheel streamliner out of Long Beach. We’d shipped our containers earlier than last time but as we arrived, we realised that the containers weren’t waiting for us. Our Bolivian contact, Marcelo Alvarez Garcia had his hands full, attempting to get our equipment trucked from the port to salt flats. Marcelo finally prevailed. Mike Akatiff, Erin Sills and myself were lucky enough to get our containers in time Pic: Jean Turner / FIM TRAVERSE 11
