the warm, turquoise sea before the
wedding on the white-sanded beach;
the beautiful bride elegantly perched
on the back of an old American
car. Plenty of rum was consumed, a
whole bottle put on everyone’s ta-
ble. Pork, black beans and rice and a
chocolate fountain fuelled everyone
with energy for enthusiastic salsa
dancing which was ongoing through-
out the reception.
It didn’t seem fair that I just rocked
up in Cuba for a stranger’s wedding
just in time for a free Rolling Stones
TRAVERSE 59
concert as well. We stopped for some
mojitos at an atmospheric bar in old
Havana first.
Like many others it boasted to be
Ernest Hemmingway’s watering hole.
The concert was surprisingly
accessible with massive screens
