Fire festival for luckiness
hile January and February are the ideal
times to have fun with snow and take part
in winter festivities such as the Hwacheon
Sancheoneo (Mountain Trout) Ice Festival, the
Pyeongchang Trout Festival, the Taebaeksan
Mountain Snow Festival, the Inje Icefish Festival, or Jaraseom
Singsing, March is the time to visit Jeju Island and participate
in the Jeju Field-Burning Festival, to wish luck and happiness
for your family. The festival will last from March 3rd to March 6th
at Saebyeol Oreum (Bongseong-ri, Aewol-eup, Jeju-si, and Jeju
Island). Here, you can explore and connect with the lifestyle and
customs of Korean farmers.
Jeju, also called “Love paradise”, has become popular with
international visitors for its serene beauty as commonly captured
in photographs. However, to take in this beauty, you must be there
yourself. There are long roads along the coast passing immense
flower fields and rustic houses with stonewalls which embody the
wholesome pace of daily life of the people who live here.
Get up early to welcome the first sunlight in the land of
kimchi on Seongsan Ilchulbong peak and follow that with a
day full of surprises. The journey will take you to Cheonjiyeon
waterfall, Jusan-jelli cliff - the island wonder, and the impressive
Yakcheonsa temple - the pride of locals. You can also experience
the uncannyn on the Ghost Road, wander about Love Land Park,
or get lost in Maze Land Amusement park which has the longest
stone maze in the world. Also on the itinerary are Seongup
ancient village and Jeju Folk Museum which will take you back
in time to the age of cottages, rickshaws, and fisheries from
times past.
