Columbia
region Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlottes)
description Copper Bay Lodge is a small lodge that caters to groups
looking for a unique, and very exclusive experience. Groups are kept
small to ensure personal service and a relaxing atmosphere that is hard
to find in the larger lodges of Haida Gwaii. Gourmet North American
dishes are matched with wines. The ocean-side lodge is nestled on five
acres of secluded beach with views of Hecate Strait. Each day anglers
have the opportunity to fish some of Haida Gwaii’s most famous steelhead
rivers where seeing another angler is an anomaly. The rivers are small and
intimate and loaded with steelhead that are aggressive to the fly. Owner
Derek Botchford refers to this place as ‘off the grid’ steelhead fishing for
a reason: few people know about it, and those who do, know that it’s a
special place.

region Northwest British Columbia
description Considered one of the greatest steelhead
rivers in North America, the Bulkley River is home water for
owner Derek Botchford and the Bulkley River Lodge. Along
with having the most rod days on the Bulkley, Botchford
also has the lion’s share on the Morice where he operates the
Morice River Lodge. The two lodges make for a unique and
special steelhead trip in late summer and fall. Guests split
up their week stay between the two rivers where they catch
steelhead up to 20 pounds swinging flies. Botchford offers
4-day float trips, along with 6-day canyon trips and 7-day
lodge trips. Both lodges are unique in their own rite. Bulkley
River Lodge is brand new with 5 star accommodations while
the Morice River Lodge is secluded, rustic and charming.
