this river on the exclusive, must-
fish list of any steelhead fisher-
man. It is possible to fish this river
on your own using the Dean River
Permit System, but the logistics
of setting up camp is difficult. But
it can be worth the effort. Most
people fish through one of the
lodges on the river where they
run the river in jet boats and get
dropped off at the choice runs.
Fresh from the ocean, steelhead
here are chrome bright and fight
as hard, and jump more, than any
steelhead strain known.

kispiox river
at a glance The land of big steel-
head, the Kispiox has produced
more 30-pound steelhead than
any other watershed known. A
tributary of the Skeena River, the
Kispiox is a massive watershed
in itself. It flows 40 miles and
the water is big, which in turn
creates big steelhead. Fortunately,
the Kispiox is accessible to most
people thanks to well-maintained
logging roads that follow the
river and Highway 16 that goes
through Smithers and Hazelton.
There are also several lodges that
guide anglers on the Kispiox.
