Tea Garden, Darjeeling

shops on my travels. I remain so engrossed
in the place itself that I find shopping
a total waste of time. Besides, I am a
budget traveller. I have to refrain from
shopping in order to save money. But,
to answer your question, I’d say the best
souvenir that I have ever got home was the
Darjeeling Tea that I got from a tea estate
in Darjeeling.
One place you think did not live up to
the hype
Well, that would be Mysore Palace.
Actually I had very high expectations from
it. I always had this image in mind that
it’s a great site–royal, grand and with a bit
of hilly beauty in the backdrop. However,
I found the palace very average. It’s just
a palace with not much of character
or mystique. Well, it’s just my opinion
and I’m not discouraging anybody from
visiting it!
One travel mistake you would never
make again
The biggest travel mistake that I have ever
made was to not book my return ticket
from Sikkim. I thought I’d explore it
indefinitely, but things didn’t work out the
way I wanted. It was a learning experience
that taught me a great deal about
planning, booking tickets in advance,
studying the destination geographically
and managing expenses.
Next on your travel wish list, and why?
Ladakh. It’s been on my wish list for quite
a while now. I want to get done with it as
soon as possible. I want to go there more
as a photographer. I can’t wait to capture
its magnificent landscapes.
