Isla Cozumel
Divers sharing stories of lionfish and sharks sit table-totable with families tanned from a day at the beach club.
Mexican couples spin and step to salsa music in the Central
Plaza. Such is an ordinary day at Cozumel, the third largest
Mexican island, with beautiful beaches, big waves, and
rocky outcrops over the ocean. Deep within the tropical
jungle, you’ll find well-preserved Mayan archaeological
sites. Shop at the duty-free ports for diamonds, watches,
Mexican housewares and handicraft. Stunning underwater
life and unique coral structures make this the perfect
Caribbean trip.
PLAN Now: December to March is the finest season in
Cozumel. Think warm days with no or little rain. Enjoy
festivals such as the Cozumel Carnival, a lively parade with
elaborate costumes, street dancing, music and traditional
dishes.
Travel Tip: Many restaurants and shops are either closed
or close early on Sundays. Even cruises don’t function on
this day. So if you’re doing a quick trip, try not to be here
on this somnolent day!
Getting there: Just a 5-minute drive from the downtown
area, the International Airport of Cozumel is the easiest way
to soar into this beautiful island.
