Snow globes
If you’re looking for an original
and traditional souvenir from
Vienna, then ask for the Viennese
snow globes. The largest selection
can be seen and bought in the
manufacturer’s snow globe
museum, while selected pieces
can be found in many souvenir
shops and on Vienna’s Christmas
Markets during Advent.
My Secret: Typically Viennese
snow globe figures are the
Giant Ferris Wheel, St. Stephen’s
Cathedral and the City Hall
of Vienna. But my favourite
snow globe is the one with
the “Gugelhupf” inside. (The
Gugelhupf is a traditional Viennese
confection of pastry.) The smallest
globe costs about € 10.
These are kitsch-free souvenir
stores in Vienna that I would like
to recommend:
• Das Goldene Wiener Herz,
Kirchberggasse 17/L1, 1070
Vienna, www.dgwh.at
• MQ Point, Main entrance of
Museums Quartier Vienna, 1070
Vienna, www.mqpoint.at
