ST. IGNACE
MICHIGAN
St. Ignace, Michigan, is the perfect home
port for adventurers ready to explore the
Upper Peninsula. Located at the northern
end of the spectacular Mackinac Bridge,
this beautiful community is perfectly po-
sitioned between two Great Lakes –
Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. Fishing,
kayaking, beachcombing, and walking
the city’s Huron Boardwalk are just some
of the ways people enjoy the St. Ignace
waterfront. The city, with its unique loca-
tion, is also home to two ferry services
that transport visitors to historic Mackinac
Island.
Away from the shoreline, there are plenty
of unique outdoor spaces worth explor-
ing in the St. Ignace area. Hiawatha Na-
tional Forest, the North Country National
Scenic Trail, and a variety of sea stacks
including Castle Rock are just a few ex-
amples of what awaits visitors to this in-
credible location.
With a history spanning 300 years and a
Native American heritage honored at a
variety of museums and special events,
St. Ignace knows how to celebrate its
past with an eye on the future. Other an-
nual events include several car shows, a
bridge walk, pond hockey and more.
As the words “home port” suggest, St.
Ignace is the perfect jumping-off point for
exploring the Upper Peninsula. Visitors
take a short drive and find themselves at
the world-famous Soo Locks, where mas-
sive freighters make their way through
man-made canals. Lovers of lighthouses
can explore three in the span of a day or
take a lighthouse tour by boat. Michigan’s
most stunning waterfalls can be found at
Tahquamenon Falls State Park, only a sce-
nic, 70-mile drive away.
Even further but still within a day’s drive are
Seney National Wildlife Refuge, Pictured
Rocks National Lakeshore, and beautiful
Lake Superior.
With St. Ignace as home base, endless ad-
ventures and comfortable lodging await vis-
itors to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Learn
