El cant de la Sibil·la is part of Majorca’s intangible world heritage, declared so on 16th November, 2010. It is a liturgical drama with Gregorian melody that was widely sung during the Middle Ages in southern Europe and is traditionally interpreted in Catalan in the churches of Mallorca (among which are those performed in the Lluc monastery and the Cathedral of Palma) and Alghero, Sardinia village.

The Sibyl is a doomsday prophetess of classical mythology that was introduced and adapted to Christianity thanks to the analogy that can be established between this prophecy and the biblical concept of Doomsday.
