UNESCO World heritage in Lithuania

Republic of Lithuania was initiated to UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural

Organization) in 1991. In 1992 Lithuania joined UNESCO convention for World’s cultural and

natural heritage protection and in 2004 joined intangible cultural heritage protection convention.

Lithuanian objects inscribed on the World Heritage List:

1. Vilnius Historic Centre (1994)

2. Curonian Spit (2000)

3. Cross-crafting and its Symbolism (2001)

4. The Baltic Song and Dance Celebrations (2003)

5. Kernavė Archaeological Site (Cultural Reserve of Kernavė) (2004)

6. Struve Geodetic Arc (2005)

7. Sutartinės - polyphonic songs (2010)

8. Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve (2011)
