In the past year, America has seen quite a few serious hurricanes which affected certain communities, and caused other ones to reach out and help. When Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico on September 20th, there was devastation across the island. Unlike the hurricane in Texas, Puerto Rico did not receive the immediate help that they needed. Even now, they require donations and aid, giving Americans an opportunity to help fellow citizens out. It is our responsibility to try and help the island. Puerto Rico is not a state, which caused some hesitation, but they are still a part of the United States of America. Besides aiding in Puerto Rico’s relief efforts, organizing a way for Plymouth students to help would also

personally benefit students and create a bigger sense of community. Some ways we could bring the students together to help is by raising money, organizing a club to raise awareness, or a service trip that would directly send aid to the island.

When Hurricane Maria stuck on September 20th, it caused immense destruction that the territory is still working to recover from. Some of the immediate effects included, heavy flooding, drinking water contamination, and a complete shutoff of the island’s electricity.
