MARINE OPERATIONS TRAINING
This training is designed to provide the background knowledge and understanding as well as the
practical training to enable participants to perform various marine operations duties.

The School provides functional training to the Port Terminals to help them run efficient and
effective operations. Courses include equipment training on a variety of cranes, such as ship to
shore, rubber tyred gantry cranes, straddle carriers etc., liquid and dry bulk handling machinery,
technical maintenance and cargo handling training.
The following programmes are offered which enable learners to perform the operational
requirements of their jobs in the sector of the business where they are
deployed:

Specialising in the training and development of people, the MSoE offers Port logistics and
terminal management training, customised for business needs. A variety of supplementary
courses is offered, such as Planning, Revenue, Induction and Customer Services.

The Engineering Training Department started operating in 2009. Today its biggest training
offering is the Outcomes Based Modular Learning (OBML) programme, a Transnet Group
initiative resulting from an Artisan Agreement with organised labour.
