Forward Issue 3 | Autumn—Winter 2015 This issue of Translate focusses on the activities of the newly formed Rehabilitation research group within Keele University’s Institute for Science and Technology in Medicine (ISTM). This group has it roots in the School of Health and Rehabilitation (one of the oldest physiotherapy schools in the UK), and has significantly grown in capacity over the last decade. For the first time, all the researchers in this group contributed to two of Keele’s three most successful units of assessment (General Engineering and Allied Health Profession) in the research assessment exercise—REF 2014. This issue of Translate showcases some of the exciting translational “high impact” research being carried out within this ambitious research team. bilitation Science. Congratulations to Dr Ed Chadwick for leading the IPEM accreditation submission and also to Mrs Humphreys for successfully launching the new BSc (Hons) course. As the population gets older and medical care gets better the cost and burden of managing people with long term disabling conditions is likely to continue increasing. The research carried out at ISTM has the potential to substantially reduce both the cost and the burden associated with such care.
