The Journey: Lisa Coltman
“I never set out to search for fame and glory: Searching for
fame was never where I wanted to go. The truth is, I was
running from my heart…my inner self. I was running
from that small voice, which was quietly speaking to me
from within. In a search to understand, I was creating
words, artistically inscribed on Bamboo tiles or Dichroic
glass with the intent to inspire and encourage an inner
dialogue with people. I walked the Red Carpet at the
Oscars- the Sundance Film Festival- the “City of Hope”
and many other exciting events. I gave away words to
major stars, and some turned away from the camera
while their eyes filled with tears. One evening on the
Red Carpet, I found myself standing alone and knowing
somewhere deep inside of me, it was not about celebrityit was about the possibility of transformation through the
power of communication.
“The power of words creates awareness about our
personal internal dialogue- how we look at the
world and communicate with others.“
At that moment I realized the words were the window
opening the intimate essence and truth that live in the
heart of all of us. It became painfully apparent to me that
fame had become my focus instead of the gift that was
given to me by God. My ego had taken over and I was in
a wrong-way spiral that seemed to have no end. At that
moment I had a personal epiphany: The power of words
creates awareness about our personal internal dialoguehow we look at the world and communicate with others.
The last Red Carpet walk was at the Oscars when the
movie “The Cove” won the most prestigious award in the
film industry. That movie actually inspired me to become
an activist, but for me it was not about feeding or saving
an animal: For me, it was about feeding a person’s heart
and soul.
