EDITORS NOTE

October was the month of events here in the Middle East for HR and Learning Professionals and it did not disappoint. On page 48, you can read our feature on two great events that we attended, the MBTI conference and The HR Summit and Expo. Next month, we are looking forward to meeting more L&D professional in the region at the annual Training and Development Show in Dubai on December 8th-9th.

But first, we turn our attention to this month's theme, developing your organizations core skills. Core skills define a companies culture and values, employee retention rates, revenue, market share and competitive advantage. They are the backbone of career and business success.

This months feature on page 22 looks at the progress GCC countries are making towards developing systems and qualifications to support the development of core skills, and how as an organization or training provider you can remain competitive in the growing market.

To counter the argument of the importance of core skills, in her regular column on page 16 Kara Schoeffling asks: Are core skills really needed in today’s world?

In addition to our content-packed articles on developing your organizations core skills, we ask Is your Onboarding Programme effective? A shocking 31% of employees quit within the first six months of employment! Check out page 14 to find action steps from Amandeep Grover that will transform your workplace onboarding systems.

This month we are also pleased to announce Holiday Inn Al Barsha are our selected Exclusive Business Hotel Partner.
