~GATHER UP YOUR NEEDED PROPS~

Preparing for this pose takes time, patience and a lot of props. But it is definitely worth the effort. Necessary props include a bolster, two pillows, a zafu or two, an eye bag and maybe a blanket.

Lasater says, "As we practice Supported Bound-Angle pose, we are reminded of this primordial place of complete rest and ultimate protection." The experience of being held by this force is deeply comforting and brings a profound sense of equanimity and wholeness.

Consider being held in the great golden womb of the Universe. Remain in the pose for 7-10 minutes. If you feel stiff after this pose, practice for less time. For many students this posture is a favorite and they rest in it for as long as 20-30 minutes often making it their complete practice. After relaxing so deeply, allow your awareness to return slowly. Feel sensations in the body and notice thoughts drifting into and out of the mind. Move ever so slowly, deliberately, in order to have the deep sense of peace fill every fiber of your being.

Supported Goddess is helpful for those with high blood pressure, headaches, or breathing problems. Respiration and circulation improve. Areas of contraction and tension in the pelvis and abdomen are freed, allowing the downward energy, apana, to become balanced.

Remember do not remain in this or any pose if you have any discomfort. It is crucial that the body is comfortable in order for you to relax, rejuvenate and experience Restorative Yoga as it is intended.

Each time you practice is a unique experience. Here are some suggestions for getting started:

Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed.

Decide how long you would like to practice. (10-15 minutes/pose)

Gather the necessary props.

Let the breath be your guide to deep awareness of the body/mind.

Stay in the present moment.

Allow the pose to unfold effortlessly.

Refreshed and energized, continue moving through your day with a grateful heart.
