In Sicily the traditional ancient costumes were rather simple,
varied and in some cases also rich. The traditional clothing of the
Sicilian woman and man were therefore composed of different
garments made with different shapes and invoices, and often the
colors also varied; the clothes of the daily days were also distinct
from those of the party.
Female clothes
The female costume is composed of: a long skirt of blue, red,
yellow brocade or black skirts edged with broderie anglaise; from
a white or flowered cotton apron, or linen according to use; from
white cotton knickers, which cover the legs up to the knees,
enriched with St. Gallen lace and a red ribbon at the end; from
wool or cotton socks (depending on the season); from black
leather shoes with a slightly rounded toe and a small buckle on
the instep.
