May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk , Youth and Sports Day in Turkey
It was celebrated for the first time in Samsun as a veteran ' s day . It became official in 1935 under the name of Atatürk Day . After the celebration of 19 May at Fenerbahçe Stadium The idea that Beşiktaş presented at the sports congress was given to Atatürk With the addressing of 19 May to the youth , it became the 19 May Youth and Sports Day . memoration of Atatürk was added to the name after the 12 September coup . Every year on May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk , Youth and Sports Day is celebrated all over Turkey with shows and sporting events . A giant flag that reads " From Youth to the President with the Love of Atatürk " and called " Love Flag " is taken ashore from the Tobacco Pier on the Independence Road and given to the governor of Samsun . The flag is then handed over to the young athletes to be presented to the President . After departing from Samsun , Amasya , Tokat , Sivas , Erzincan , Erzurum , Kayseri , Nevşehir , Kırşehir and Kırıkkale it is presented to the President in Ankara during the May 19 ceremonies .
