CELEBRATION IN MACEDONIA- DEVA
Deva is a religious holiday , you probably haven ' t even heard of and that ' s because it ' s only celebrated in two cities all over the world : Jerusalem and our hometown Krushevo .
Deva is celebrated two days before the birth of Jesus , and it revolves over a red six sided star which guided families to where Jesus was supposed to be born .
The families mostly shepherds , were also joined by three wise men . They gave the newborn baby Jesus gifts such as gold which symbolizes kingship , myrrh , symbol for death and frankincense symbol for deity . The three wise men are known to be the first people that bowed to Jesus .
In Krushevo we celebrate this holiday by going to church on an evening Mass and after that the boys go from home to home with a red star and they sing a song called deva devane .
After we have sung the song we say may this house be blessed and the owners of the house give them money .
The church ' s choir also participates in this tradition and the money that they collect are given to the first born child in the town for that year .
