HOSPITALITY ISN’ T A PIT STOP. IT’ S WHERE CAREERS ARE BUILT, LEADERS ARE SHAPED, AND DECADES-LONG JOURNEYS BEGIN. THESE ARE THE STORIES THAT PROVE IT.

Hospitality has long been misunderstood as a stopgap – a first job, a temporary fix, something you do“ until something better comes along”. Yet, across hotels, restaurants and kitchens around the country, real stories tell a very different truth.

ospitality is a gateway industry: one that welcomes people in, teaches them transferable life skills, and offers genuine, long-term career growth for those willing to show up, learn and lead.
Tshepiso Ruth Konaite: from housekeeping to GM
Hospitality is often described as a starting point – whether it’ s your first part-time gig as a student or an entry-level role. But for those who commit, learn and lead, it can become something far more powerful.
Tshepiso Ruth Konaite’ s journey at MINT Hotels is the perfect example of exactly that. In less than a decade, and in under five years with the brand, she has risen from housekeeping to General Manager, now leading two MINT Hotels: MINT Hotel Rosebank and MINT Hotel Sandhurst.
Tshepiso’ s hospitality career began in 2015, and in 2020, she joined MINT Hotels as a Housekeeping Supervisor. It didn’ t take long for her leadership potential to stand out. Within a year, she was promoted to Housekeeping Manager, and by 2022, she had stepped into the role of Executive Housekeeper, overseeing housekeeping operations across four MINT Hotels.
By 2023, Tshepiso transitioned into senior management as Assistant General Manager at MINT Express Sandton View. Two years later, in 2025, she reached a career milestone: her appointment as
Tshepiso Ruth Konaite
General Manager of both MINT Hotel Rosebank and MINT Hotel Sandhurst.
“ I had always dreamed of managing a hotel,” she reflects.“ What kept me motivated was the encouragement and mentorship I received here, and the spirit of teamwork that makes MINT such a unique group to be part of. Management has always believed in my potential and has therefore ensured that I receive appropriate mentorship and motivation.”
Hospitality leadership is as much about people as it is about performance. For Tshepiso, her leadership philosophy is rooted in empathy, integrity and emotional intelligence.
