I believe that the wheat-free diet is a tremendous breakthrough, by eating less bread alone you are cutting out unhealthy preservatives that companies use to keep the bread fresher for a longer period of time, which also limits the amount of “junk” you are putting in your body. When someone chooses to go wheat-free they will pay more attention to what kind of food they are buying and what is in it, which eliminates the amount of unhealthy food they put into their body. The wheat-free diet should not only be incorporated into the lives of athletes but to everyone. By having better digestion it leads to better sleep and more energy, so everyone should try to make an effort to cut out, or eat less, wheat in order to have a better and healthier lifestyle.

The article “Winning without wheat” there were a few cyclists who were asked to go on a wheat free diet and they ended up being surprised by the results. All the changes that were affecting their bodies were in good ways, such as better digestion, better sleep, and better recovery. Human’s do not have the enzyme to fully break down wheat, so once the cyclists were eating wheat-free their digestion improved tremendously. Other animals, such as cows, have a specific enzyme that actually helps them digest wheat, so the researchers found that if humans stopped eating something they couldn’t fully digest they would, in general, feel better. Most athletes think that pasta and bread should be one of the main things you have to eat the day before a competition in order to get your carbohydrate intake you need to compete the next day, but there are many other types of foods that will do the same and will even decrease the amount of fatty and fast foods you intake. When on a wheat-free diet, you will not eat hamburgers, cookies or bread so therefore you will intake less sugar and salt.
