4: NOT A MEET N’ GREET It’s hard being as popular as you! Friends and those looking to become such constantly bogging you down with hello’s in the hallway! You feel the need to stop and address every single supporter, even if it interrupts the sacred migration of classmates to their next class. It is of the utmost importance that you do not shun your companions but simply incorporate them into the flow of students. There are others in the hallway, that are much less friends, but now enemies since you infringed upon their commute with your stoppage. Either cut off from the pack quickly, or bring your friend up to pace, no one likes a celebrity that ruins lives, so don’t be that guy. Remember, it’s not a meet n’ greet, be discreet! 5: LOCKERS It’s not just the floor we walk on, but in most halls there are metal cubes that holds a high school career, and they can be a nuisance. A locker is a green swinging door with the potential to disrupt the course of teens. You’ve seen it, a bulging backpack with a duffel lazily strapped on the back. It extends at least 10 feet it appears, and it obstructs the hallway to no ends. The caravan located on the student's backpack causes all of those traveling to swerve out of the way. As the student disregards rule 4 and talks to his buddy loudly, he causes total disarray. Don’t be that student. In all cases, don’t be a fool, free up space for the school! 6: STEPPING ON UP You’ve done it! Five steps are down, you are becoming a pro at these hallways well in no time you’ll be a pro. But wait… what is that? Steps? Steps! This was never addressed in the steps… it must be covered now! The steps are perilous to a degree, the rules of the hall still apply, people just tend to act a tiny bit more “free” while ascending the rubber footings. There are those who enjoy borrowing their heads deep into the personal space of someone’s back while going up the steps. This nestling does nothing to free up space, and just causes an awkward grinding of sorts, save it for the school dances. Also, never ever jump down a few steps to show your abilities, no one's impressed, just annoyed by the crash. Keep in mind, always prep, don’t ruin the steps! 7: FINAL STEP The final step is simple, it is nothing special. Throughout my examples, I have mentioned that one person that never has the decency to do the good thing. These types of people only look out for themselves. The final step is simply to not be them. Be the selfless person you expect others to be. You are a part of the school, sometimes you are the celebrity meeting and greeting, others you the model student, judging others. Regardless of what you are today, it is important that you look out less for yourself, and more for others. The hall ways can be a turbulent place, it never hurts to make friends. Aspire for change, be a part of that change to make life a more peaceful place, even if it starts with hallway etiquette. Never forgot, the halls are great, if we learn not to hate. By Kaiden Ciongoli
