Sarah Bender, the feature of our Artistic Spotlight, has been painting since she could "hold a brush in her hands." Playing clarinet in the marching and symphonic bands, performing with the winter guard, and working as a professional artist keeps her quite busy. "Painting lets me express myself; it gives me a creative release," she explains. "I mainly enjoy painting on a large scale. Diving in, getting a bit messy - and mistakes are easier to cover." Bender works as the scenic artist at the Theatre Factory in Trafford. Her sets have been included in a multitude of plays, including The Wizard of Oz and Little Shop of Horrors. Bender painted the tarp for the 2013 Middle School Guard's "Here Comes the Sun", and she hopes to begin painting large scale murals in homes this coming summer.
