City of Arlington Stormtalkers Elementary Education Program 2018- 2019
The City of Arlington ’ s Stormwater Management Division created the Stormtalkers Education Program to assist Arlington educators with Stormwater Pollution Prevention , Water Quality and Flood Safety education to our local schools . Freddy the Fish 1 st grade students
Freddy the fish lives in a mountaintop lake . He has lived here all of his life , but one day he decides to follow the stream that leads down the mountain . Freddy would like your students to come along on his downstream Adventure ! Find out what Freddy encounters on his trip .
A Rain Drops Journey - 2 nd grade students
Ever wonder what happens to a rain drop as it travels from the clouds and through our neighborhoods ? A Raindrops ’ Journey is designed to allow students to visualize how pollutants enter our streams , creeks and lakes through raindrops as they travel through our urban environment . They will learn the different types of non-point source pollutants and learn ways they can help prevent or remove the pollutants from our local waterways .
Journey Through the Storm Drain System- 3 rd
The Stormwater Drainage System is designed to move water away from our homes , schools and businesses to prevent flooding . This program is being offered to raise awareness of the function of the storm drain system and to introduce its importance to flood prevention by highlighting the “ Turn Around , Don ’ t Drown ” message . This program provides a discussion on how litter , trash , debris and other pollutants affect the water quality of our local streams , creeks and lakes through stormwater pollution .
Bugs Don ’ t Bother Me ! - 4 th
Students can take a stormwater adventure by visiting the underwater world of our local creeks , streams and lakes ! They will be introduced to the small animals that live in these ecosystems . The students will explore the effects of stormwater pollution on water quality and its effect on the food chains and food webs of our urban streams .

We all live in a Watershed - 5 th and 6 th
This program focuses on explaining the Watershed Concept through the students ’ connection to their local watersheds . Students will learn the components of a watershed , their natural functions and how land uses and other activities affect the water quality .
