Over the last couple of months we have had several of our
team members being promoted or acting in higher positions.
That’s a good thing. It speaks to the potential for upward
mobility in our organization and the confidence that is
reposed in our staff. TPDConnect congratulates all. As you
step into new shoes work your way in, to ensure that it
fits well. If your supervisors did not believe in you, you
would not now occupy those positions and you want by
your performance to make them and yourselves proud.
There is a saying by an unknown author “Never stop learning
for life never stops teaching” and I commend this to you. We
can all benefit from being lifelong learners. Lifelong learning
is the “ongoing, voluntary, and self-motivated pursuit of
knowledge for either personal or professional reasons.
Therefore, it not only enhances social inclusion, active
citizenship,
and
personal
development,
but
also
self-sustainability,
rather
than
competitiveness
and
employability.”
Make use of all the opportunities that present themselves
and often times you have to go searching for them. To those
team members who completed Conversational Spanish, Team
Jamaica Training and/or the Warm Welcome training recently
conducted by the Travel Foundation … good for you!
In this edition of TPDConnect we hear about our Tourism Quiz
which though long in coming, as we write is being aired on Tele-
vision Jamaica. The feedback has been positive from the stu-
dents, the teachers and stakeholders. We demonstrated true
teamwork to make it happen. Thanks to all who chipped in.
Also in this edition, Destination Managers gear up for better
disaster management through the acquisition of satellite
phones, recycling is a priority for the children and residents
of Treasure Beach who collected over 250,000 plastic bottles
in a recent competition. We welcome Ms Welcome, Community
Tourism Specialist from St Kitts; share some Caribbean recipes
in Delectable Diaries; take you “Out and About” with our
team members; flash back on our Mothers’ and Fathers’
day treats, give you pictorial highlights of Tourism Summer
Intern
Programme
training
and
so
much
more.
As you browse through the pages of this month’s edition of
TPDConnect we encourage you to soak up our achievements
and be rejuvenated for the next leg of our journey. Remember
we need to hear from you. Feedback is our lifeblood and will
help us to serve you our customers better.
